Gailtal Culinary Tour

A culinary tour into the picturesque Gailtal valley. Sample authentic Carinthian delicacies like mountain cheese and Speck (a type of smoked ham somewhat like prosciutto) and enjoy stunning views.

The tour starts with a ride over the Hochtal to Bad Bleiberg, a small spa resort at the foot of the Dobratsch mountain by Villach. We then head to the Gailtal valley via Labientschach, pass by the Lake Pressegger See and finally reach the town Hermagor. On the Nassfeld, Carinthia’s largest ski resort, we ride to the Tressdorf alpine meadow, where there is an alpine dairy during the summer months. This is an ideal first stop and an interesting introduction to the world of alpine cheese making. A taster session of the full-bodied Gailtal mountain cheese is included.

Following on, this culinary tour takes us to the Liplhof in Egg near Hermagor where we sample the widely acclaimed Gailtal Speck.

Well-fortified, our motorcycle group will head east along the Gail River valley to St. Stefan where we take the turning to Vorderberg. We head back to our starting point via Feistritz, Arnoldstein and Fürnitz. This tour is a memorable joy for all the senses, especially the culinary experiences of Carinthian cuisine and perhaps even calls for another go!
