Radsberg Mountain and Schaida Saddle

A winding route for connoisseurs! Enjoy many fantastic viewing points and photo opportunities on your ride over the Radsberg and through to the Schaida Saddle on the Slovenian border.

Suited to experienced riders, this tour takes us to one of the best known valleys in Carinthia, the Rosental. The route then takes us across Carinthia’s largest river, the Drau, and along several side roads to Ludmannsdorf, where we have a beautiful view over the Rosental which we have just ridden through. After passing through the small town of Maria Rain and several picturesque forests, we reach the Radsberg, from where we can admire a view of Klagenfurt and take photos.

The descent from the Radsberg captivates with unspoiled roads and little traffic, so that riding becomes pure joy. We come past the village of St. Margareten and from there to Bad Eisenkappel, the southernmost point of Austria. The route continues to the Schaida Saddle along the River Vellach, a crystal clear tributary to the River Drau. The road here is spectacular, featuring rugged cliffs on the left and a steep descent to the Ebriach stream on the right. An exciting gorge to ride through!

Even if the road surface on the Schaida Saddle has deteriorated over the years, it’s worth the bumpy journey because we are rewarded with a breath-taking view of the Koschuta mountains, a 14 km range on the border to Slovenia.

The route continues in direction of Zell Pfarre, where after riding through a further rocky outcrop, we reach the town of Ferlach. Returning through the Rosental valley, our tour ends at the starting point.
