Elberstein Castle and the Meerauge in the Bodental valley

A tour rich in lakes, which, in addition to a guided tour of Elberstein Castle, also shows a rare natural spectacle: the Meerauge in the Bodental valley.

We meet at the tourist information centre in Drobollach. This route, which is ideal for beginners, leads via small villages such as Selpritsch near Velden or Schiefling, via the Hafner and Keutschacher See lakes to the outskirts of Klagenfurt. The winding route over the Zwanzgerberg and the Radsberg takes our motorbike troop to Grafenstein, from where it continues via Lake Klopein and Lake Gössesdorf to Globasnitz in the Rosental valley.
A special stop is planned here at Elberstein Castle. The owner himself will give us a guided tour and exclusive insights into his castle, which he built himself over decades of manual labour - from the foundation walls to the detailed work. Absolutely worth seeing and experiencing!
The tour then leads past the Freibach reservoir to Zell Pfarre and on to Ferlach. This small village not only impresses with the picturesque landscape in which it is embedded, but is also known far beyond the country's borders as a gunsmithing town.
Finally, the Loibltal valley is crossed to reach the next highlight of this route: the Meerauge in the Bodental valley. The Meerauge is a dead ice hole created by a glacier during the Ice Age with a pond in the centre. A natural spectacle that invites you to take photos! Back through the tranquil Bodental valley, the route continues through the Rosental valley to the starting point at Lake Faak.
