Castle Elberstein and the Meerauge Glacial Pond in Bodental
A tour taking in several lakes as well as a guided visit to Castle Elberstein and a rare natural phenomenon, the Meerauge in Bodental valley, a glacial kettle hole pond.
Ideal for inexperienced riders, this route takes us through villages such as Selpritsch near Velden and Schiefling via Lake Hafner and Lake Keutschach to the outer edge of Klagenfurt. The twisty route via the Zwanzgerberg and the Radsberg takes our motorcycle group to Grafenstein, and from there via Lake Klopein and Lake Gössesdorf to Globasnitz in the Rosental valley.
There is a special stop at Castle Elberstein. The owner himself conducts our tour and gives us exclusive insights into the castle, which he built himself from the basic walls to the detail work over decades of craftsmanship. Absolutely worth seeing and experiencing!
The tour continues past the Freibach Reservoir to Zell Pfarre and further on to Ferlach. This small town not only captivates with its location in a picturesque landscape but is also especially well-known for its tradition of gun production.
Finally, we ride through the Loibltal valley, in order to reach the next highlight on this route: ‘The Meerauge im Bodental.‘ This kettle hole pond was created during the ice age by a glacier. A spectacle of nature which calls for a photo opportunity! The return journey goes through the attractive Bodental valley, past Castle Hollenburg and finally through the Rosental valley to the starting point.
